The Smart Pill Box Etui: what's inside

4 min read

The Smart Pill Box Etui is one of the products we're currently developing at Oxionix. It's meant to remind you when it's time for your pills, show you the right compartment and keep your family in the loop. And it should look good enough to sit in your living room. In this post, we show you what we're planning for it.

Note: The Smart Pill Box Etui is still in development. All features, materials and prices described here are our current plans. They are not promises or guaranteed features and may still change before launch.

The box

The pill box is planned with 28 numbered compartments that are built firmly into the box, so everything stays safely in place. The compartments are numbered instead of labelled Monday to Sunday. That means you decide in the app how many doses a day you need: with four doses a day, the compartments last one week, with two doses a day, two weeks.

Your pills are meant to be stored safe from light, air and water in their compartments. The box runs on USB-C power. Batteries are only planned as backup power, so you never have to charge anything.

Reminders and protection

  • At dose time, the box reminds you with light and sound.
  • The right compartment lights up, so you can see at a glance what's next.
  • If the wrong compartment is opened, the box warns you with light, sound and a spoken message.
  • How often and when the pills are taken is set in the app.

Voice

  • The box speaks its reminders out loud.
  • A voice button understands simple, fixed commands, such as "Have I already taken them today?"
  • Family voice: your loved ones can record the reminder themselves, for example "Mum, time for your pills."
  • Later, not at launch: a connection to Alexa for anyone who prefers to use Alexa.

App for you and your family

  • The box connects over Wi-Fi.
  • Family members can see in the app whether and how regularly the pills are taken.
  • If a dose is forgotten, family members get a message.
  • The app keeps a history of the last 12 months.

Especially when family lives far away, this is meant to give peace of mind on both sides.

Oxion, the AI assistant we're planning

We're also planning a personal AI assistant called Oxion. For the first 3 days it's free and helps you set up the box. After that, it's planned as an optional premium feature for €5 a month. Oxion does not give medical advice. It's a helper for your daily routine.

Service

We're planning to include 10 years of app and service in the purchase price. There's no required subscription.

For on the go: the smart travel case

Because the compartments are built in, the pill box stays in its place at home. For on the go, we're planning a separate product: the smart travel case. It's meant to remind you on the go as well and comes with its own SIM card, so it stays connected to the app even without Wi-Fi, for example on a day trip or a visit to family.

Price and design

Design is always at the heart of Oxionix. The Smart Pill Box Etui is planned in an elegant brass look and delivered in simple packaging, so the money goes into the box, not the box's box. Our planned target price is about €219–249. The price isn't fixed yet and may change before launch.

Etui or Etui Signature?

Alongside the Etui, we're planning the Smart Pill Box Etui Signature. It's meant to offer everything in the Etui plus finer, longer-lasting materials, a personalised engraving, a soft night light and a personal set-up. Our quiz helps you find out which version suits you better.

As of October 2026. Everything in this post describes plans, not a binding product description.
